DigitalOcean is beta testing its App Platform, and I am very excited.

App Platform is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering from DigitalOcean that allows developers to publish code directly to DigitalOcean servers without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.

There are currently two plans, free and professional. The free tier is for static sites, and the professional is for dynamic sites. The platform supports all the major programming languages.

  • Go
  • Hugo
  • Node.js
  • PHP
  • Python
  • Ruby

I believe they’ve simplified their Managed Kubernetes product to make it easier for devs to deploy at scale. The App Platform will support automated scaling, which is something I always find more challenging.

The App Platform will handle creating your Load Balancer, Database, and background Workers. This automation will make DigitalOcean even more of a contender to the other cloud providers. There are already several sample repositories for you to try. One of the sample projects is a Laravel project, which I’m excited about.

Once again, DigitalOcean is making my life easier by providing easy-to-use products.
